

Addressing the 28th Annual Convocation of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) in Bengaluru on Monday, the Governor congratulated the graduating students and said that the convocation marked the beginning of a new chapter in their lives, carrying with it the responsibility of safeguarding human life and public health.
He noted that the words of a doctor inspire hope, their touch instills trust and their decisions often determine the course of a patient's life. Stressing that trust is the greatest asset in the medical profession, he urged the young graduates to remain committed to transparency, sensitivity, integrity and ethical values in their practice.
Highlighting the rapid transformation taking place in the healthcare sector through modern technology, artificial intelligence, telemedicine and research, the Governor called upon young doctors to embrace lifelong learning and continuously upgrade their knowledge and skills to deliver quality healthcare services.
Referring to the vision of a "Healthy India" and "Developed India-2047" under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shri Gehlot said that the medical fraternity has a crucial role to play in achieving these national goals. He observed that contributions in rural healthcare, maternal and child health, preventive medicine and public health awareness would significantly strengthen the nation-building process.
The Governor said that service occupies the highest place in Indian culture and recalled the ancient dictum "Sarve Santu Niramayah" (May all be free from disease), describing it as the guiding spirit of India's medical heritage. He further stated that traditional Indian systems of medicine such as Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy are receiving global recognition and emphasized the need for greater integration of modern medicine with traditional knowledge systems to improve healthcare outcomes.
On the occasion, the Governor congratulated Dr. N. Sridhar Shetty, Dr. Harshagi Veerabhadrappa and Dr. A.C. Shanmugam, who were conferred honorary degrees by the university, and wished them good health and continued success in their respective fields of service.
Commending Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences for its achievements in medical education and research, Shri Gehlot said the institution has established a distinct identity at both national and international levels. He noted that thousands of doctors educated by the university are rendering exemplary service in India and abroad and expressed confidence that the institution would continue to emerge as a leading Centre of innovation, research and quality education.
Emphasizing that research and innovation form the foundation of national progress, the Governor called for greater encouragement of scientific research to make India self-reliant in the field of health sciences. He expressed confidence that many of the graduating students would make meaningful contributions in medical research, development of new drugs, public health and healthcare innovation in the years ahead.
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Medical Education Minister Dr. Sharanprakash R. Patil, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Bhagvan B.C., members of the Senate, Syndicate and Academic Council, faculty members, students and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
