A few factors work in Khader's favor :
He is one of the senior Muslim faces in the Karnataka Congress.
He has ministerial experience and is considered a relatively non-controversial leader.
As Speaker, he has gained statewide visibility and maintained cordial relations across factions.
If the Congress leadership looks for stronger minority representation in a future cabinet expansion or leadership reshuffle, Khader's name could naturally come into discussions.
However, there are also challenges:
The Speaker's position is constitutionally expected to be politically neutral, and leaders holding that office are not usually shifted directly into active executive posts unless they resign as Speaker first.
Current discussions within Congress appear to be focused on balancing regional, caste, and factional equations around the expected leadership transition involving D. K. Shivakumar, cabinet berths, and possible Deputy CM positions. Reports indicate multiple communities and senior leaders are competing for representation.
Other Congress leaders with stronger organizational or caste-based backing may also be contenders if additional Deputy CM posts are created.
Politically, Khader's chances would improve if:
Congress expands the number of Deputy CM positions.
The party wants a prominent minority representative in the government.
He decides to move out of the Speaker's role and return to executive politics.
At present, most political observers would describe Khader as a possible dark-horse candidate rather than a frontrunner for the Deputy CM post. The immediate focus remains on the Chief Minister transition and cabinet formation.
