6,500 economically weak students of various colleges in the State will be provided with free textbooks covering the year’s syllabus as part of Rajasthan Youth Association’s (RYA) 44th Annual Book Bank and Scholarship Programme to be held at the Jnana Jyothi auditorium in Central College campus on Sunday (August 12, 2018). Annual tuition fee for more than 300 students will also be paid by RYA.
Starting this year, RYA has decided to also help colleges that lack sports infrastructure. About six rural colleges across Karnataka will receive support this year. RYA is helping them to set up five badminton courts, five volley ball courts and 10 table tennis courts, while also offering them the required sports equipment for it.
RYA has announced that the application process for textbooks and scholarships will go completely online from the next academic year in order to save time and paper. “We wanted to make it convenient for students travelling all the way to Bengaluru from remote places across Karnataka. This was long due,” says Archana Chordia who is in-charge of the 2018 RYA Annual Book Bank and Scholarship Programme.
More than one lakh students have benefited from the text books over the past 44 years while 5,000 students have received scholarships during the period as part of the Annual Book Bank and Scholarship Programme.
The undergraduate students studying BCom, BBM and BSc are selected for tuition-fee payment based on their performance in the previous year. The books are given away as a loan without any deposit and the students have to return them at the end of the year.
