He made these remarks while inaugurating the 11th Annual Conference of the Karnataka Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Bhavaprachar Parishad at Veerashaiva Lingayat Bhavan, Dharwad. The Governor emphasized, "If every young individual embraces self-confidence, sacrifice, and service like Swami Vivekananda, dedicating their energy to innovation, positive action, and national service, India can reclaim its position as a 'Vishvaguru.'"
Highlighting the spiritual foundation of Indian culture, Shri Gehlot said, "Our civilization has always been rooted in spirituality and human values, strengthened over centuries by saints, sages, and monks. They integrated religion, compassion, and morality into every aspect of life. Maharishi Patanjali codified yoga scientifically, promoting physical, mental, and spiritual balance. Saints such as Kabir, Guru Nanak, Tulsidas, Mirabai, Ravidas, Basaveshwara, Purandar, Kanakadasa, and Akka Mahadevi propagated messages of love, equality, and unity, while acharyas and monks promoted global welfare through the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam."
Recalling the contributions of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, the Governor noted, "He was a great saint, yogi, and spiritual master whose devotion earned him the title of 'Paramahamsa.' Through worship of Mother Kali and understanding of multiple faiths, he realized that all religions lead to the same Supreme Being, emphasizing love, compassion, and truth. His famous teaching, 'Jato Mat Tato Marga' – 'As many faiths, so many paths,' bridges ancient and modern spirituality," quoting Rabindranath Tagore.
Speaking on Swami Vivekananda, Shri Gehlot added, "He was India's greatest philosopher, saint, and youth inspiration. From the small temple of Dakshineshwar, he carried his Guru's message to the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago, where his powerful speech showcased India's greatness and conveyed the true path of life to the world. Vivekananda believed in the transformative power of youth, self-confidence, hard work, and patriotism. He taught that true education awakens inner strength, develops character, and builds humanity. His guiding principle, 'Strength is life, weakness is death,' continues to inspire generations."
The Governor urged today's youth to embrace knowledge, technology, and opportunities while upholding good character, discipline, and integrity, noting that the messages of great spiritual leaders are vital in addressing mental unrest alongside material progress.
He further praised the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Bhavaprachar Parishad*, stating, "For over a decade, the Parishad has been propagating the life, thoughts, and ideals of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Mother Sri Sharada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda across Karnataka. It is more than an organization; it is a movement fostering consciousness, awareness, and societal transformation—from darkness to light, ignorance to knowledge, hatred to love. Its contributions in education, health, rural service, and disaster relief are commendable. I congratulate every member for their dedication and service."
The ceremony was graced by Venerable Swami Muktidananda Maharaj, President of Ramakrishna Ashram, Mysore; Swami Nirbhayananda Saraswati, Ramakrishna Ashram, Gadag-Vijayapura; and His Holiness Dr. Gurusiddha Rajayogindra Mahaswami, Sri Jagadguru Murusevira Math.
