GULF CUP DIRT TRACKING IN MANGALORE

Mumbai, India - The first leg of the Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd sponsored ‘Gulf Cup Dirt Track Championship’ concluded in Mangalore yesterday. The event saw a record 177 entrants. The riders braved the hot and sultry conditions; their display of raw courage and skillful riding gave the crowds much to hoot about and made the event a thumping success.

The course laid out by organizers Sportscraft was really tough. In addition to the sharp bends, loose gravel areas made staying in the saddle dicey. Many riders, particularly the first timers, lost their balance and took a tumble or two.

C.S Santosh of Team TVS came up with a flawless display on his TVS Shoulin to emerge supreme in the Indian Expert class Group B, in the first round of the Gulf Cup Dirt Track Championship for two-wheelers in Mangalore on Sunday.

He also won one race on his TVS 250 FX in the Indian Expert Foreign class leaving his team mate to follow. In addition to the trophies he won from each class, he took home prize-money of Rs. 9000 /-

In the Novice class Sudeep Kotegar showed a fine display of skills and also emerged the best local rider. He was always under pressure as he went through the motions on the serpentine course laid at the Mangala Exhibition grounds. But to his credit, he did well to strike the perfect balance on the sharp bends to stay ahead of the rest of the field and come out trumps.
