Bangalore - On the occasion
of 'World Environment Day', Aviva
Life Insurance, in association with Central Ground Water Board,
Forum for
Organized Resource Conservation and Enhancement (FORCE), an
NGO working to
preserve natural resources and GK-I, Welfare Association (GK-I
RWA) sets
up the third Rainwater Harvesting structure in South Delhi.
The earlier
ones have been set up in GK-I, R Block, and GK-II, M Block.
Water tests
conducted by the NGO - FORCE have shown significant improvement
in the
water table. All the units are scientifically designed units
to optimize
the recharge through a filtration pit and recharge shaft.
The latest project, set up
in GK-I, R Block, will have an annual potential
to harvest more than 410,000 liters of water for the benefit
of the local
communities. The Company has also set up an environment corner
'We Care'
to increase knowledge and awareness of the local children
on the beauty
and importance of natural resources.
Mr Vivek Khanna, Director
Marketing, Aviva Life Insurance said, 'At Aviva,
we place great value to good citizenship and believe that
concrete efforts
towards supporting communities, in which we operate, is an
integral part
of business success. We have been working towards community
development
and supporting environment conservation initiatives since
our entry into
India. Our two other rainwater-harvesting projects in South
Delhi have
shown very favourable signs in increasing the level of water
table. We
hope that this project further supplements these good signs
and help
address the water problem of this area.'
The 'Aviva Environment Corner'
is located in the very park where the
rainwater-harvesting unit has been set-up. Situated in the
middle of a
busy residential colony, it has been set-up to give the local
children's
community a unique location where they can meet and learn
about the
natural resources and appreciate the beauty of nature. The
environment
corners at the other two Aviva rainwater harvesting sites
have seen the
local residents and children holding small environment learning
oriented
activities like painting, poetry reading and story-telling
competitions,
all of which have generated a lot of enthusiasm.
