The National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR) which is a recognized Federation of Railway Employees having Membership of nearly about 10 lakh workers and is affiliated to INTUC.

In Press Conference held at Bangalore, Mr. M. Raghavaiah, General Secretary, NFIR demanded the Government on following Issues.

* Setting up of 6th Central Pay Commission and Grant of Interim Relief
* To implement 11th September, 1997 Agreement
* D.A. Merger
* Pension Scheme
* Awards of Board of Arbitration - Implementation
* Outsourcing, Corporatisation, Privatisation of Railway Activities
* Productivity linked Bonus, Remove salary ceiling limit and ensure
payment on actual salary
* Manpower planning - Benchmarking
* Downsizing of workforce
* Reject retrograde recommendations of Running Allowances
Committee - 2002
* Revision of Rates of Travelling Allowance
* Group 'D' Staff on Indian Railways
* Hospital Patient Care Allowance
* Counting of Casual Labour Service in full for all purposes.
* To fill up 1.60 lakhs vacancies which is existing at present.
* Grant cadre restructuring and upgradation to left over categories
in Railways
* Grant upgradation to supervisors (P. Way) and designate them as
JE - II
* Grant upgradation from Apex Group 'C' to Group 'B' in various
categories in Railways
* Review recruitment policy for Group 'D' posts in Railways and
power local administration to recruit local unemployed youth
against Group 'D' posts.

NFIR's Unions are functioning on all the Zonal Railways and Production Units and serving the cause of Railway employees. The issues of Railwaymen are discussed by NFIR in the formal meetings like PNMs/JCMs etc., at various levels of Management for reaching negotiated settlement.
