The New Labour Code—aimed at creating a New India workplace ecosystem—brings together transparency, simplification, and compliance ease, which are crucial for improving productivity and fostering sustainable growth in the MSME sector. These reforms are expected to significantly reduce the compliance burden on industries while safeguarding the rights and welfare of workers.
Speaking on the reform, KASSIA President, Sri B.R.Ganesh Rao has stated that the New Labour Code provides a fair and balanced framework that will help MSMEs operate with more clarity and confidence. The consolidation of multiple labour laws into simplified codes is a long-awaited step that will enhance formalisation, improve ease of doing business, and promote better employment opportunities.
KASSIA believes these progressive measures will help create a modern, transparent, and efficient labour ecosystem aligned with the aspirations of a growing New India. The reforms will not only boost industrial growth but also help India attract greater investment, generate employment, and strengthen the MSME sector's contribution to the national economy. Also this reform marks the end of a long, redundant era of fragmented labour laws and ushers in a modern, transparent, and growth-oriented framework for New India.
The introduction of the New Labour Code offers significant advantages to both employees and employers through a uniform minimum wage structure, greater flexibility in employment, improved work–life balance, formalization of the workforce, and enhanced transparency in wage payment and compliance.
At the same time, certain challenges remain, such as increased labour costs for MSMEs, financial burden due to higher social security obligations, and the possibility of confusion arising from delays in implementation. MSMEs in rural and semi-urban areas may also struggle to adapt to digital processes. Additionally, the transition requires reorganization of HR and payroll systems, and lack of awareness could lead to unintentional violations etc.,
KASSIA urges the Government of Karnataka to ensure smooth implementation of the new code and to provide the necessary support, clarity, and awareness programs for MSMEs across the state. The Association remains committed to working closely with the government to ensure that the benefits of these reforms reach all stakeholders.
