ALL INDIA LOCO RUNNING STAFF ASSOCIATION organized a SEMINAR about the “100 days action plan of Railways” in Bengaluru.
The Seminar was inaugurated by Sri Basudeb Acharia Ex MP and Ex Chairman Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways.
He explained the policies of the Government to hand over the public sector to private and a mass resistance is required from the workers. He also mentioned the role of Loco Running Staff in the past political Scenario. In 1973 Loco Running staff Association which is a small categorical association conducted a country wide strike and Government of India forced to come to an agreement with AILRSA and it was announced in the Parliament. This strike leads the historical strike of Railway men in 1974 under the leadership of George Fernandes. Strike continued for 22 days, no demands was settled, thousands of workers victimised. But the strike leads to a political change in the country.
Com. Amanullakhan, (All India President, All India Insurance Employees Association (AIIEA)) explained the protest done in LIC against the privatisation and more than one crore signature collected and submitted to government against the move. Mass awareness is to be created.
Sri. V Sridhar, (Associate Editor, FRONTLINE Magazine, Bengaluru.) explained about how the Chinese Government developed the High Speed Rails. The cost of travel in Chinese HSR is much cheaper than any country. There the Government is investing heavily in Railway infrastructure. Here In India we talk about Bullet Trains, but who will travel in Bullet trains when a lesser charge and time is available in Air travel. In India Metro in different places are different. No standardization. The Trade unions should take a leading role to educate the workers as well as public.
Sri B P Kumaraswamy, General Secretary All India Station Masters Association(AISMA), Sri R Manjunath Central Committee Member AILRSA, Sri B Balakrishnan, South Western railway Mazdoor Union also presented their views.
