Jain (Deemed-to-be University)’s School of Sciences, Department of Biotechnology in association with the Indian Science Congress Association Bengaluru Chapter organized a two-day National level Conference on Research Innovation in Biology.
Dr. Varalakshmi KN, Director, Center of Post-graduate Studies spearheaded the two-day national conference that witnessed attendance from students, research scholars, professors from not just Bangalore but also from other states and cities like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kolar, Dharwad, to name a few. Close to 300 students participated in this national level conference where the students were provided with an amazing opportunity to present research papers related to environmental science, health science, cancer biology, plant biotechnology, and more. The participants were assessed by a panel of judges constituting of external experts;the first, second, and third place winners were awarded a trophy and a certificate.
Eminent scientists from institutions like GKVK, IISc, and NCBS, to name a few, delivered special informative lectures further motivating the students with real-time research innovations. For instance, Dr. Rajan Dhige, Department of Molecular Reproduction, Development and Genetics, Indian Institute of Science delivered an interesting topic on the role of hormones, receptors, and antibodies, and their applications for a healthy animal and plant management, and to address issues like biodegradation, global food scarcity, environmental pollution, etc.The Vice Chancellor of Jain (Deemed-to-be University), Col. (Hony.) Dr. N. Sundararajan was also present for the inaugural sessionof the conference sharing amazing tit-bits on the influence of science on the forward-thinking, radical generation of today. He spoke about the mind-blowing advancements information technology, biotechnology, and nanotechnology have made by supporting innovations in research for the collective global good.Dr. Gangadhar, Member Secretary, Membership Affairs, Indian Science Congress Association, was also present at the conference where he furthered the importance of research and the scope it offers to the students of Biotechnology. The research scholars and the post-graduate students of Biotechnology were enamored with the thought-provoking and inspiring lectures on the latest research innovations in biology for a better plant and animal health management, and more.
According to Professor Varalakshmi, the objective of the conference was to motivate and inspire the students pursuing various science courses to venture into research as a career. The conference not only showcased some of the research papers brilliantly displayed as posters but also facilitated the oral presentation by students and professors. Thus, the conference turned out to be an amazing platform for aspiring students with a passion for research. In fact, the second day of the conference entailed a panel discussion on career opportunities and the skill sets students can fortify to enhance their chances of employability in the fields of sciences
